Carbon Motors™ Partners with Lear Corporation to Develop Optimized Seats for Law Enforcement
Lear Corporation to develop purpose-built driver and passenger seats for world's first purpose-built law enforcement vehicle.
ATLANTA, Georgia – Carbon Motors Corporation today announced its partnership with Lear Corporation for the development of unique driver and passenger seats built to handle the stresses placed on them by law enforcement officers for use in the Carbon E7, the world’s first purpose-built law enforcement patrol vehicle.
“We are very excited to be working with Lear,” remarked Trevor J. Rudderham, executive vice president and chief development officer of Carbon Motors Corporation. “Law enforcement officers place unique demands on automotive seating, from the gear they wear to the constant usage while on patrol. Lear has a great track record in seat innovation. With their extensive knowledge of the issues associated with conventional seats in police applications, they are excellently positioned to develop a dedicated seat to better meet our customers’ needs.”
Lear Corporation is one of the world’s largest suppliers of automotive interior systems and components. Lear provides complete seating systems, electronic products and electrical distribution systems. In 2006, Lear ranked #130 among the Fortune 500. Lear’s products are designed, engineered and manufactured by more than 90,000 employees at 215 facilities in 34 countries.
Interviews with law enforcement officers from across the country have lead Carbon Motors to seek better integrated technology and better-designed features like Lear’s special-designed seats to improve officer safety and vehicle durability.
“As a leading global seat supplier, developing dedicated seats for the Carbon Motors E7 is a natural fit for the Lear team as well as an opportunity to showcase Lear’s broad range of capabilities,” said Jeff Frelich, Director of Research and Development for Seating Systems at Lear. “Working in partnership with Carbon Motors, we plan to integrate some of our latest seating innovations to better accommodate the clothing, equipment and arduous operating conditions of law enforcement officers.”
Terms of the agreement were undisclosed.
